Dara Bascara
Rachelle “Dara” Bascara received her BA in Philosophy from the University of the Philippines and her MA in Philosophy from the University College London. She is currently working towards her PhD in Philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London, where she also teaches global politics, ethics, and political philosophy to undergraduates. Starting out as a student activist in UP, Dara is now a veteran grass-roots organizer and political activist, focusing on women's and migrants' issues. When she isn't picketing or when her head is not buried in books, you may spot Dara in commercial advertisements. As a Batibot child talent, Dara has been in front of the camera since the age of four and has been modelling professionally since she was sixteen. She is one of the founding members of Gabriela UK and Power ng Pinoy in California and the head of Global Filipino Network Europe. She is an active member of the Kanlungan Filipino Consortium, the UNISON Filipino Activists Network, and Campaign for Human Rights in the Philippines. During her free time, she publishes opinion pieces in newspapers, magazines, and blogs.
