In light of Power ng Pinoy’s advocacy to promote the Filipino culture and the arts, we are proudly co-sponsoring one of the biggest Filipino fashion shows in Northern California. Two of the prominent Fil-am designers—Crisanta Malig and Roenna Nepomuceno del Rosario will be showcasing their works at a charity show this coming weekend.
On April 27, 2013 Fashion Arts & Youth Enterprises(FAYE) is celebrating their 20th year anniversary at the Fort Mckinley Restaurant 101 Brentwood Drive South San Francisco, CA. This organization was founded in 1993 by Crisanta Malig to help young emerging artists, mainly ages 5 to 18, who have keen interests in the field of visual to performing arts to develop their artistic abilities. The kids in this program learn how to make casual and evening attires, costumes and purses. The organization provides free after-school classes from preschool to high school. Overall, FAYE’s mission is to inspire and equip the students with the right skills to achieve their dreams in the field of arts and fashion. Since its inception, FAYE had developed and helped a number of yound designers and models in the community. Crisanta firmly believes that challenging these kids to pursue their talents and abilities will enable them to work harder and believe more in themselves.
The program started in Crisanta’s own home. After a year of working in this project, Crisanta had partnered with Daly City Parks and Recreation Youth and Teen Services Program to provide more classes to the public. Classes were held 3 times a week at two community centers in Daly City. The class featured some development skills such as – creative visualization, pattern making, sewing, personality and character development. All the completed projects by the students were showcased to their own families, friends and sponsors by holding a fashion show at the end of each program. The program is still being funded by various foundations and corporations.
Co-organizing this event is another designer Roenna Nepomuceno del Rosario. Roenna is an engineer by profession but she returned to her lifelong love of fashion, which began at the young age of 10. She honed her fashion style by designing dresses and gowns for her fellow classmates in junior high school and high school. Roenna Designs have been showcased in fashion shows, state and international beauty pageants and most recently on the red carpet at the 2012 LA Music Awards. Furthering her love of fashion and beauty, Roenna has developed “The Ultimate Coffee Scrub” for face and body, which is receiving rave reviews across the nation. Roenna Design will preview her 2013 collection at the 20th Anniversary FAYE fashion show.
